Indian cricketers to undergo fitness test in Kolkata

All players in the Indian cricket team will have to undergo a fitness test on June 06 at Kolkata before leaving for Bangladesh, reports The Indian Express.
The fitness test will be conducted on June 6. The squad assembles in Kolkata on June 5. It leaves for Dhaka on June 7 to play a one-off Test and three ODIs, starting three days later.
While cricketers, who have recovered from an injury, are usually asked to undergo a fitness test, this will be the first time in a long time that the entire squad is being scrutinized.
“We’ve seen so many players break down mid-tour in the recent past. We want to ensure this doesn’t happen,” BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur informed The Indian Express via a text message.
During India’s last overseas tour, four Tests and a tri-series, which was followed by the World Cup in Australia, Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to return home for rehab during the Test series.
Jadeja had been nursing a shoulder injury, while Bhuvneshwar had a bad ankle. Axar Patel and Dhawal Kulkarni were flown in as their replacements.
Ishant Sharma had injured his knee in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. He missed the final match of the series but was picked to play a tri-series fixture on January 26.
The game was abandoned due to rain and Ishant eventually failed the fitness Test ahead of the World Cup. Mohit Sharma replaced him in the squad.
Earlier, in England, Ishant had broken down after bowling India to a memorable victory at Lord’s. The team management had described the injury as a “sore leg”.
Over the past few seasons, Indian players have made a habit of breaking down mid-series. BCCI under its present dispensation, has chosen to be cautious.
Also, as the players were busy playing the IPL, their fitness was not monitored by the Indian team support staff or at the National Cricket Academy. The cricket board gets a feedback on players’ fitness from every franchise after the tournament, but this time, they want to make their own assessment.
IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla made it clear on Monday that if a player is feeling fatigued, he must report immediately to the BCCI secretary.
“The consistent policy of the BCCI is that whoever is feeling fatigued he must report immediately to the secretary. For we’ve a big talent pool and a number of players are available for every slot,” Shukla said during an interaction with a select group of reporters

There were questions regarding the pace department. Most of the Test pacers were either out of form or injured. The kind of spin attack that the Tigers would use in the Test in Fatullah, which begins on June 10, was also an issue of debate. Shuvagata Hom, after all, hasn't lived up to his expectations as a fulltime spinner in the side.
And then there were questions over Mahmudullah Riyad's form and whether Soumya Sarker's inclusion in the Test side in the Pakistan series was a hasty gamble.
However, the selectors will feel relieved after the final round of the BCL, with a majority of the players in question hitting form.
Riyad and Soumya for instance scored centuries for their respective sides. Shuvagata's turners were instrumental in leading his BCL team to a cracking win in a low-scoring game at Mirpur.
Abul Hasan, who managed to get among the wickets as well, had a calming influence on the selectors' nerves as far as the pace department is concerned.
"Even though Shakib [Al Hasan], Mushfiqur [Rahim] and Tamim [Iqbal] didn't play the final round of the BCL, I thought the players who did managed to utilise the match well.
"I also think our pacers are in a much better situation right now. Rubel [Hossain] has received more time and is doing better. Abul has also got a few wickets. Honestly, in our conditions, pace won't matter as much. I think the pacers in our preliminary squad will be good enough for the Test," said chief selector Faruque Ahmed.
There is no doubt that the hosts' bowling line-up will depend on their spinners on a Fatullah track that isn't expected to support the pacers.
And with Shakib out of form, the burden may fall on Taijul Islam. The slow left-armer, although a bit inconsistent, picked up a five-for in the last series and hopes to continue his run.
"Apart from the Pakistan series, I picked up a five-wicket haul in the final round of the BCL as well. I hope that performance can inspire me to do well against India.
"Indian players play spin well, so it will be an extra challenge for me to perform. But if I do get selected I'll do my best in this series, because it's a big occasion for all of us," Taijul told reporters at Mirpur yesterday.
On a hot and sultry morning, Bangladesh's national players began their camp for the India series. While the players attended a gym session yesterday, they will begin their skills training today.
With the selectors hoping to submit the Test team by May 2nd, the next few camps could well be crucial for players in the preliminary squad hoping to make the final cut for the first time.
"We played well in the last series and I think our team is pretty much settled. We just want to observe them for a few more days before submitting the team," said Faruque.

We Brits tend to keep tight lipped about our trips to the loo. While we’ll happily chat about diet and the things we put in our bodies, we shouldn’t overlook the things that come out of it!
The colour, consistency and smell of our poo and wee can be early signs of whether there’s something wrong with us…

The brown stuff

Poos are predominantly water based, composed of fibre and bacteria, cells and mucus.
But who knew poo could be categorised? Or that there was a ‘perfect’ kind we should aspire to doing?
"One of the key questions I ask clients is about their bowel movements,"explains award-winning nutritionist Deborah Walker. "It’s important to keep things moving in your body; what goes in has to be able to get out, otherwise the long term effects can be serious."


Constipation can lead to further problems

How often should you go?

Conventionally, we’ve been led to believe going for a ‘number two’ should be a daily, or every other day, occurrence. However, Deborah says you should actually be aiming to use the toilet about 20 minutes after your meals. That’s right – three times a day! "Any less than that and you have a level of constipation," she says.

Why is constipation so bad?

We’ve all experienced uncomfortable bloating when we’re unable ‘to go’. But constipation affects the healthy bacteria in your gut; creating inflammation, and leading to weight gain and hormone imbalances. "Your immunity can be affected, as well as your ability to think clearly," adds Deborah. "So it’s important to get the bowel moving at least daily."

What can you do to stay regular?
Avoid fizzy drinks and gum
● Eat a balanced diet. Natural wholefoods, fruit and veg are all crucial to ‘eliminating’ effectively.
● Raw foods travel through your system faster than protein, which can take 18-72 hours to pass.
● Chewing gum, fizzy drinks and sweeteners can all act as irritants and should be avoided.
● Some medications can make you blocked up, so you may need to adjust your diet to prevent this happening. The more fibre and water-rich foods (like vegetables) you eat, the more bulky your stools will be.
● Exercise keeps everything moving – so less sitting, more standing or walking!
● Drink more water.
● Stress messes with your gut, so find ways to stay calm.

Which poo do you do?

When doctors at a Bristol hospital found patients were reluctant to describe their faeces, medics devised the Bristol Stool Form Scale. The handy chart is now used all over the world to help patients open up (excuse the pun) with less embarrassment.

What you should be looking for...
Type Four (above) is a sign of a healthy colon, but anything from Three to Five is acceptable. Poos should glide out smoothly, be light to medium brown, cause no discomfort, and be in one long shape. Movement should happen soon after you sit down, and if there is any sign of blood in the stool, see your GP immediately as it could be an indicator of cancer.

The yellow stuff

Clear
You’re probably drinking too much water. Diuretic drugs - often used to treat blood pressure – can have this effect. Or it’s sometimes seen in athletes who over-hydrate after exercise.
White/Cloudy

Phosphate-rich foods like cheese can affect the colour of your urine
A diet very high in phosphate-rich foods (eg milk, cheese, liver and kidney) can cause hazy wee. Or after sex a man’s urine can look cloudy from semen being pushed into the urethra. But if it continues, see your GP to rule out a bacterial infection.
Straw/pale yellow
This is the ideal, a sign of someone well hydrated. In a healthy urine sample, 96 percent is water and the remainder is waste products –salt, hormones and minerals which pass through the kidneys.
Bright yellow

Asparagus is known to cause a change in your urine
Are you taking vitamin pills? Some supplements contain more B and C vitamins than the body can digest in one dose. Asparagus can do this too. Don’t worry, it’s not harmful.
Foaming or fizzing
Harmless if it’s occasional, but it could indicate a kidney problem.
Amber

Too much salt can darken your urine
Morning wee is the darkest as our kidneys work overnight continuing to pass fluid to the bladder even though you haven’t drunk anything in your sleep. Too much salty food can also cause this. And toddlers may be affected if they are too heavily weaned on foods containing beta-carotene, like carrots and sweet potatoes.
Brown
Laxatives can do this or, bizarrely, overdoing the broad beans. If it persists, though, see your GP to rule out liver disease.
Blue/Green
There is a rare genetic disease that has this alarming side affect, but it’s more likely you’ve eaten large amounts of a food dyed blue.
Pink
Beetroot and berries can make your wee a rosy hue, but more reddish urine can be a sign of blood in the urine which can be an indicator of cancer. Have it checked.
Finally...
You cannot see the levels of sugar in your urine (which might indicate diabetes), and blood in the urine (a possible sign of cancer) is also often invisible to the naked eye. If you are at all worried, there is no substitute for taking a sample to a doctor.

3 resume tips for recent grads

A resume alone may not be enough to land you a job, but a poor one can certainly take you out of the running.

MPW Insider is an online community where the biggest names in business and beyond answer timely career and leadership questions. Today’s answer for:What are three things you look for in a resume? is

Not surprisingly, I look for the same things in a resume that I want in an employee. Recruiting employees is always a multi-faceted process and meeting someone “live” is certainly an important part of any hiring decision. While a resume aloneisn’t enough to land a job, but it can will certainly be enough to take someone out of the running. With that in mind, here are the three most important things I look for in a recent graduate’s resume:
Applied intelligence (EQ/IQ)
While I look at the caliber of the schools attended, I look more closely at what and how they did during their time at school. Were they at the top of their class? Were they highly engaged? Did they take full advantage of what was offered and make the most of their opportunities? And in actually crafting their resume, does it appear that they considered my point of view – did they tailor their resume to include accomplishments specifically relevant to the position?
Common sense
I find this easier to glean from an interview than a resume. But, even a resume shows some signs. For example, is it obvious to me why this person would apply for this position? Have they logically thought through what to highlight and how to present their information in the best possible way for this opportunity? Have they appeared to make “good” life and educational choices given the options they likely had? And, is the actual writing succinct, achievement and skill oriented, well organized, and my personal pet peeve of all time, free of all typos and grammar errors. My belief is that if the person isn’t able or doesn’t care enough to produce a resume that meets these standards, then they likely aren’t right for any job working with me.
Motivation/initiative/drive
There are lots of ways to describe this and I realize these words mean slightly different things. But, combined, they get at the essence of the third characteristic I always look for. The ways I spot these qualifications in a resume are by looking for the following: Did they start something? Lead something? Create something? Do something daring? Stick with something over many years? Show real passion for an issue or an activity? It matters less to me what the issue or activity was than that they demonstrated some or all of these traits in their pursuit of it.
Sadly, none of these three clarifications are as common as you might think. But when I do find these things in a recent graduate, I am pretty confident I can teach them anything else they need to know to succeed.

JUST days out from his WBC Middleweight title fight against Miguel Cotto, former champion Daniel Geale says his focus is on getting in to “perfect condition”.
The 34-year-old, of Harrington Park, has been training out of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, ahead of the fight at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, on Sunday, June 7.
Geale said his approach was to focus on himself.
“The game plan is to go in and fight my fight,” he said. “It’s not to get sucked in. It’s not to get caught up in what he [Cotto] is doing. It’s to do what I do best.”

Geale’s last fight in New York ended in a disappointing three-round KO loss to Kazakh Gennady Golovkin at Madison Square Garden in July.
Like Golovkin, Cotto is a fierce, aggressive fighter with 32 of his 39 wins coming via knockout.
But Geale said Cotto’s ferocity didn’t worry him and his own agility was a plus.
“Cotto has trouble in stages against guys that move and use their reach. He knows that’s what I’m going to be doing and he’s going to be trying to counter that with aggression and coming forward,” he said.

“I’m going to use my abilities and not get caught up in his game plan.”
Cotto, of Puerto Rico, has fought the likes of Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather who recently battled each other in what was called the ‘Fight of the Century’.
“This is going to be a huge fight for me. Fighting a guy like Miguel who’s fought some of the greatest fighters is going to be a great test,” Geale said.
“I want this one badly. It’s something that we have wanted for a while and I’m extremely excited. I’ve got guys like Gary Shaw and my team at the Grange and they’re working very hard behind the scenes. I’m just going to worry about my job and they do their job greatly.”
The card will start from 11.30am AEST on Sunday, June 7, on MAIN EVENT.
